17 random facts about us
I love random facts! If I find this kind of post on any blog, you can be sure I will visit it immediately. Don’t ask me why. Maybe I just like randomness. Or maybe for me it says a lot about the person who shares those things. One side is what the author wanted to say about themselves. But second, why did they choose to share these exact points and not others?
Now I am becoming curious what random facts about us will come to my mind while writing this blog post. Come with me and get to know us better!
1. We love roadtrips. Since we met more than 10 years ago we have traveled thousands of kilometers together by various cars: own and rented, big and small. Most of our journeys were roadtrips. Even when we planned to backpack, we somehow found ourselves in a car traversing empty roads in a new place.
2. Aga’s favourite animal is a lizard. Wherever there are lizards, Aga is happy. She loves the fact that they are fast, agile, and like to chill out in the sun. They always live in awesome places, too.
3. We grew up in Poland. We spent most of our lives in this country, so we have a Polish element in us. However, we have never felt at home there. We have a rather love-hate relationship with this place. Which doesn't mean we don't appreciate its beauty! We will definitely recommend Poland’s top places on the blog.
4. Hubert's greatest passion is classic cars. As a little boy he knew everything about cars. As an adult he still reads and watches videos about them. He also buys and repairs them. As well as takes photos of them. If he sees a retro car, for sure he will stop and contemplate.
5. We are vegetarian although we were vegan for a while. A few years ago we stopped eating meat. Then, for many reasons, we restricted our diet to vegan options only. We usually felt really well then. Unfortunately during travels keeping this kind of food restriction was too tough. Now we are quite flexible in terms of food, although we still do not eat meat (99% of the time).
6. We decided to become full time travelers on Como Lake in Italy. In 2019 we visited Como Lake area in northern Italy and while sitting on a couch one afternoon, a new idea came to us. Can’t we just spend our lives like that? So that’s how it all began.
7. We built a campervan ourselves and sold it a few months later. When the idea of vanlife appeared in our minds, we decided to build a van that would suit our needs. It was a great option for 2020 but during first months it turned out that we didn't become huge fans of this lifestyle. After a few years we changed our minds and bought a smaller van again.
8. We found 2 little dogs in Montenegro and took them home. Two puppies ran out onto the winding road in the river canyon so we stopped to avoid hitting them. When we opened the door, they jumped into the car and stayed. We tried to find their owners but people in the village assured us that this was a way to get rid of unwanted pets, so if we wanted to do something for them we had to keep them. At a visit to the vet, we learned that the dogs were already grown up, but had the nature of puppies. Boredom did not exist with them!
9. Hubert hates flying by plane. In general, he doesn't like: when someone else is driving, high altitudes and lack of ability to take a break and get out into the fresh air. Flying includes it all. Besides, he is 1.9m tall and standard seats are far too tight for him. If he didn't love traveling, he wouldn't fly at all. Since we travel a lot, we try to change modes of transportation so that he doesn't have to fly too often.
10. For several years we organized tourist and navigation rallies for vintage cars. Local tours, old cars and organizational skills come together when organizing a rally. It's also a great opportunity to connect with people with similar interests. Even now, when we visit our hometowns, on average once a year we are tempted to organize such an event, each time saying that it is the last one.
11. We happen to buy tickets and not use them. Change of plans is our middle name. Sometimes this means not using the ticket we bought. We are slowly learning that there are insurances or flex tariffs. One day we will start using them.
12. We love food but not necessarily cooking. Food is as important as travels for us. By offering us good food, you will convince us to do almost anything. Portions in restaurants are usually too small for us, and cooking is not our favorite activity. So, if someone gives us a treat we will love him the most in the world.
13. There is nothing better than coffee with a view. We love coffee. As much as food and travels. Just imagining drinking delicious, beautifully scented coffee, somewhere by the sea or in the mountains, lifts our mood. There is literally nothing better than that. Therefore, the coffeepot is an essential piece of equipment in our luggage, and cafes are one of the most visited attractions.
14. We both play musical instruments. Music is of great importance in our lives. Aga went to music school, where she played the piano. Later she was learning to play the guitar, djembe, cajon and even the violin. Hubert is an excellent guitarist. Therefore, he also knows how to play guitar-like intruments like ukulele or guitalele. He had his own band as a teenager and dreams of returning to it in the future.
15. We love being with people as much as we love being alone. We love meeting people, talking, listening and telling stories. It brings us great joy and fulfilment. We can say the same about spending time alone (the two of us). It is greatest if we maintain a balance and devote enough time to our inner lives between meetings with people in which we wholeheartedly engage.
16. Our biggest souvenir was a car. Next up: a guitar. Once we went for a trip to Portugal and then to Spain where we landed in Madrid and bought a car. We visited a large part of the country with him and went to Poland to complete the formalities. The plan was to sell it as soon as possible, but we loved it so much that it stayed in the family and is still with us today.
17. We don’t drink alcohol. We have no need to enhance our life with stimulants. We like the state of sobriety and readiness to undertake any activity that comes to mind. A spontaneous trip to see the sunrise over the sea? Anytime! We view alcohol as a limiting factor rather than entertainment. Also, travel insurance usually does not work when you are under the influence of alcohol.
